金(かね、かな‐、キン、コン)

金

Meaning: gold

Components: You can divide this up in whatever way works for you. Here are a couple of options:

(roof), 干 “to dry,” 丶(drops), 一 (one)
(roof), 二 (two), 丨(stick), 丶(drops), 一 (one)

(Remember: however you choose to memorize the kanji, make sure you get the stroke order right!)

My hack: I kind of went off the charts with this one, but it made sense to me…. Think of a goldmine. The first 2 strokes are the roof (or you could think of it as a picture of a mountain), the next 2 are the layers of earth, stroke 5 is like a jackhammer or pick axe, and the 2 drops are sparks coming off the metal. The last stroke is the ground in the mine.

It’s long, but it worked for me!
